First Interview - Again

As I mentioned earlier this week, I had a job interview on Tuesday.  I actually think the interview went really well and this is what I wore.  I found this interesting article on DKNYPRGirl's Tumblr blog about red nail polish for interviews.

Blouse: Banana Republic; Sweater: Gap; Earrings: Blue Nile

I think Aliza has a good point about being yourself at interviews and ensuring not only that you are a good fit for the company, but also that the company is a good fit for you.  However, as someone who works in a job that has nothing to do with fashion and being in the HR field, I can't ever see myself wearing bright red nail polish to a job interview.  I don't even wear my engagement ring simply because I want NOTHING to take away from what my resume and I are saying about my skill set and experience.

Slacks: Banana Republic; Bag: Calvin Klein

Unfortunately, there are SO MANY factors that go into interviews and you never know what the person interviewing you is looking for.  I would hate to come across as ostentatious, wild or simply inappropriate during such a crucial time during your job search.  I make sure my nails are filed and neat, but I don't wear any polish and I don't wear any jewelry or clothing that will be remembered more than my talent.

Shoes: Calvin Klein (Similar here for great price)

Even my shoes are sensible and not anything that I feel would be more memorable than our conversation. These Calvin Klein pumps are the perfect height for an interview (2.5 inches) but they are not shiny or flashy in any way.  I bought these to finally replace my Nine West shoes (seen here) which were already getting pretty worn down.  These were on sale at Nordstrom Rack and I only paid about $60 for them.

What do you normally wear (or stay away from) for work interviews?

  4. I always make sure my nails are in perfect condition before an interview and I'm not afraid of the red nail polish either (read the DKNYPRgirl Tumblr post). I also like to wear one bold piece to make me stand apart, which could be my red heels or my necklace, because I don't want to be another faceless resume in a crowd of talent. As for clothes, I agree in keeping it classic!

Tell me what you think, but be nice! You catch more flies with sugar than spice!
