Sporting Around Town

This weekend is the San Francisco Marathon and while I would probably collapse if I ran even a half-marathon, I am really proud of my training for the last 10 weeks. My goal was to actually RUN my first ever 5k. I've walked a 12k before when my husband and I walked Bay to Breakers in 2015 and we also did the Kaiser Permanente 5k on Valentine's Day, but I wasn't able to run it all and I ran and walked it.  So I started training with our local running store in June so that I could run the whole 5k and I've managed to do it several times!  This was me in recovery mode after the last trail run this past weekend. I had to run several errands around town: get to the J Crew sale, drop off at the tailor, return books to the library and of course, get coffee. Hopefully, I do well this weekend. I am hoping for a finish time around 36 minutes, but I will be happy with anything under 40 minutes. Wish me luck!!

Breaking Rules and Other Things

I broke all the fashion rules and wore navy blue with black to work this week. While I got many compliments and was having a wonderful day, it quickly went south after I looked at these photos and realized I also managed to break the clasp on my necklace and lost my beloved mini diamond cross pendant. While it is not a priceless bauble, it did have sentimental value to me and I was very upset to find it gone. Everyone tried to help me retrace my steps, but it was like searching for a needle in a haystack since I walk to work and I meander all around town before and after. We didn't find it and I had to just let it go, but I'll probably still be sad about it for a while.  In happier news, I bought these pretty Zara pumps at the beginning of the month when my sister visited me.  They are still a bit uncomfortable, but I am slowly breaking them in. Everything else has been in my closet for a while.

Bold Red: The Long and Short of It

I've worn a variation of this outfit all summer long.  Back in May, I wore this top with navy shorts and wedges to my nephew's birthday party. In June, I wore these shorts with a sleeveless button down blouse, and a few weeks ago, I wore this shirt with white shorts to brunch with my friends in Dallas.  Now that summer has arrived in the Bay Area and we are getting temperatures in the high 70's and low 80's, I spend a great deal of time in shorts and I wore this to lunch with a couple of friends out by the bay earlier this week.  I love the contrast of the longish top with the shorter shorts.  In this case, I decided to add color in the form of bold red accessories.

I Am Wearing:

Top: c/o Banana Republic (Splurge | Steal)
Shorts: Target (similar)

The Librarian Look

Earlier this week I had to run a quick work errand at our local library. I wasn't going to be returning to the office afterwards so I asked our son to meet me there so he could pick up his summer reading books.  We found this beautiful terrace while wandering around and then we stayed there the rest of the afternoon reading before heading home.  I sent my husband a pic and he laughed and said I was the "unsexiest" librarian he had ever seen. Ha!

San Francisco Date Night: Yerba Buena Gardens

After our short trip to Dallas, we spent the rest of the week catching up on work and getting our son prepped for his upcoming braces.  Then on Friday my husband had a meeting in the city and invited us to meet him there to wander around looking for dinner.  I had worn this shirtdress to work and it transitioned perfectly for a fun date night. It has easily become a favorite in my closet and the thicker fabric and long sleeves were perfect for when the fog caught up to us and cooled the entire city down.   The shoes are from the recent J. Crew end of summer sale and they replaced my Old Navy sandals (last seen here) that finally gave out on me. I had heard of the Yerba Buena Gardens, but had never been there and while it is a beautiful space, I wasn't able to capture them as they were setting up for the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. Instead I took photos in the opposite direction facing St. Patrick's Church and the Contemporary Jewish Museum.  We will definitely have to come back the area since we still haven't visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art across the street from the Gardens either. I will have to declare a museum day before our son goes back to school next month.

I Am Wearing:

Dress: Brooks Brothers (limited sizes on sale)
Earrings: Diamond Hoops (Splurge | Steal)

Summer Black-Tie: Lace & Jewels

We had our annual summer black-tie for our charity back in Dallas last weekend. I found this lace midi dress by BCBG Max Azria when I started running in the Spring and I knew I wanted to wear it for our summer event.  The delicate lace layers are very soft and the cut is so forgiving! People kept asking me how much weight I've lost and it was a tad embarrassing to admit that I haven't lost any weight, even though I have lost a full dress size.  Since the dress was a very neutral parfait color, I wanted this necklace and the earrings to be the centerpiece of my outfit.  It was fun to surprise everyone who asked when I told them the jewels were J. Crew.  I've seen a big increase of J. Crew pieces in my closet since we moved because we have a store just a few blocks away and I often run in on my way home from work.  They are so great about ordering items for me when I can't find something in my size or especially in petites. Plus, their summer sale is insane this week. You can expect more clothes and awesome jewels in the near future! It was fun to see our friends that we missed terribly and it is always fun for me to get dressed up and have a date with my husband.

I Am Wearing:

Dress: BCBG Max Azria

Necklace: J. Crew

Earrings: J. Crew

Clutch: Anya Hindmarch (sold out, but love this wine colored option)
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik (mine are over 10 years old, would love to splurge on these)

A Winey Day in Napa

The last full day here of my sister's visit was spent wining all over Napa.  Her bestie had never been and it was fun for us to go back to our favorite wineries and see them again through her eyes.  We started at Domaine Carneros and then followed it with a cheese and wine plate at Artesa Winery before picking up some lunch at Dean & Deluca and finishing our day at one of my favorite wineries, Mumm Napa. It was also the perfect way to end my sister's two week visit and her best friend's week-long visit.  I traveled to Dallas this past weekend with my husband to attend the summer black-tie for our favorite charity.

I am Wearing:

Dress: c/o Banana Republic (mine is sold out, here is a similar one under $20!)
Necklace: c/o Jane Basch Jewelry

Earrings: Blue Nile

Clutch: Tory Burch

Japantown

One of the things my sister really wanted to visit on her trip to San Francisco was Japantown. Her friend and her wanted to spend a whole day there and I chose to drop them off in the city one morning when I was scheduled to work. I had driven by the Japan Peace Plaza several times, but had never explored the neighborhood. It was such a treat to be able to do so! The neighborhood is so beautiful and I loved the Origami Fountains and of course, the famous Peace Pagoda in the Peace Plaza.  I dropped them off right by the Japan Center and they did most of the 19 suggested items on this list before I came back to pick them up in the evening.  I was dressed for work in this older J.Crew blazer that I bought at a local consignment store and a blue silk tank.

I Am Wearing:

Top: T by Tahari (option)
Blazer: J. Crew (similar)
Earrings: Blue Nile

Gold and Grey Squared

We went to Union Square to shop earlier this week and the girls were excited to shop at stores that are not available where they live like Uniqlo, H&M, and Nordstrom.  We ate breakfast at Roxanne's Cafe and spent some time perusing the art for sale in Union Square.  I've worn these jeans a few times and I am excited to finally be able to get them tailored because these photos reminded me that they are still way too long. And this is the final appearance of these old favorite flats as they are really falling apart. I need to look for a replacement soon.
