Birthday Gold and New Year's Eve

Mr. Fantastic and I got home late last night from a wonderful week in New Orleans and we were exhausted!  So today's post is what I wore on my birthday to visit the Dallas Museum of Art with my sister to view the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit.  I will have outfit posts from our trip to New Orleans in the coming weeks!
Top: Ann Taylor (gift from Mr. Fantastic)
Sweater: Gap (gift from Mr. Fantastic)
Scarf: no label (bought at a local consignment shop)
Skirt: Calvin Klein
Shoes: Kate Spade (old via Marshall’s)
Cuff: no label (bought at a local resale shop)
Earrings: no label (bought at same resale shop)
Purse: Tory Burch
My sister said that this outft could also be worn for a casual New Year's Eve party at home with friends and since we are spending New Year's Eve at friend's homes tonight, I just might recycle this look and wear this out tonight.  Before we hit the museum, my sister and I stopped at a few resale/consignment shops in Dallas and I found this cuff and earrings in one of them.
This is the same outfit that I mentioned earlier this week about being irreverent of the weather while my sister was warm and bundled up.  The security team at the DMA was annoying me by walking in and out of the frame over and over again! I DON'T recommend taking outfit photos in their garden as they desperately want to be on camera and will ruin all your shots. :(  For the record, I did wear a coat, but I didn't like it with this outfit.
I am going to do a post on my birthday (and Christmas!) presents because I was very fortunate this year and all my gifts deserve their own entry!  I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year wherever you are tonight.  Don't forget to start the 2012 properly: wear red (to bring you love and prosperity) and don't loan or borrow anything on New Year's day or you will be loaning and borrowing all year long!

HAPPY 2012!

Holiday Workday

I was stunned to discover that my company was only giving us Monday for Christmas.

Top: Zero
Skirt: The Limited
Boots: Nine West
Earrings: Costume Pearl Studs (my grandmother’s)
Necklace: Won in an Office Swap
Purse: Calvin Klein

The last couple of years that I can remember, I've always had at least three or four days off.  Anyhow, I went ahead and took  Friday off for my birthday and wore this last Thursday.  The top is by a German company similar to Express or The Limited, named Zero.

It's been chilly here, but Thursday felt really good in the afternoon right before we got a new cold front.  At least I didn't have to worry about freezing my tush off!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Thursday! I am enjoying my time away.

My sister and Jean Paul Gaultier

For my birthday, I got to spend most of my day with my sister.  She had asked me if I could take her to the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art and I was thrilled to oblige her.

Shirt: heart2heart
Jacket: Wilson’s Leather Goods
Jeans: Old Navy Flirt
Boots: Ugg Short Boots in Chestnut
Scarf: borrowed
Ring: gifted

She loved it.  In fact, we spent quite a while, just staring in awe at many of the pieces.  It was so much fun to view the exhibit with someone who truly appreciates it and was as excited as I was.
She didn't know that Jean Paul Gaultier designed the costumes for the Bad Education and The Fifth Element.  It was incredible to watch her face as she discovered more and more things that she loved.
Photos were fun because we used the Museum garden as the backdrop for both of our oufit photos, but she was sensible and reverent of the weather and I was...not.  We also had a fabulous time trying to avoid the security guards who desperately needed to be in every frame! I think she had a wonderful time and I enjoyed sharing the experience with her!

Holiday Down Time

As I mentioned yesterday, we've had some company the entire week and between my birthday and Christmas, it's been a long, long week.  We went to the movies with the entire family yesterday to watch Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and it was a great way to unwind from the Christmas whirlwind.
Sweater: American Eagle Outfitters
Camisole: Nordstrom Rack
Jeans: Levi’s
Shoes: Giorgio Armani
Handbag: Balenciaga Classic First
Earrings: Bought in Cancun years ago
Bracelets: Cruise Ship Purchase and gift from our boys

I will be out of town for a few days and posting may be sporadic at best.  I am really looking forward to spending some down time alone with Mr. Fantastic.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.  BRB

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Everyone! This year, we had all family come to our house for Christmas and while it has been great and exciting, it has also been hectic and crazy.

I promise to be back with new outfits and both Birthday and Christmas loot postings after a few days to enjoy my family.

I will tell you that I feel sooooo lucky to have received such amazing presents from everyone.  I actually can't choose favorites, but there will be more on that later.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and gets to spend it with your loved ones.

Merry Christmas!

Family Visit: Dinner with Friends

I mentioned earlier that my sister was in town this week.  Last night we went to dinner with my wine club.  Don't worry, I don't let her get loopy.  I just wanted to spend time with her and I didn't want to miss my friends either. So I combined them!

Tunic: Adrienne Vittadini
Tights: old/no label
Boots: MIA
Trench: Vertigo
Clutch: DIY
Ring: gifted

I forgot to bring my camera along (because I didn't bother getting dressed after a full day of work) but since she looked great, I snapped these iPhone pictures.
Everything except for the minaudiere is mine.  I love that she takes the same clothes I wear and gives them a fresh spin.  It would never have occurred to me to wear this blouse as a tunic.  Just goes to show that anything can be fashionable and trendy.  You just have to take a step back and look at your closet with a new perspective.  It wouldn't hurt to be adventurous and brave sometimes.
Happy Thursday!

Holiday Wear: In-Office Party

Not everyone gets to have their holiday party away from the office.  Some of us are invited to the break room for our office celebration.

Sweater Coat; Clockhouse Elements

Top: Adrienne Vittadini

Scarf: Target

Corduroys: James Jeans
Shoes: Via Spiga
Earrings: Macy’s (gift from a cousin)

I actually wore this twice during the holiday season.  I wore it to a casual dinner at my in-laws and then again this week to our office celebration.
This is the same top I wore to the holiday charity luncheon last month, but I like the way it looks here better.  I like that you can actually see the sequin panel in the front.
It was definitely too cold for open-toe shoes, but these were so cute and I love the cage look.  Plus, I am a sucker for red, patent leather.  There are only four shopping days left! Does anyone know what I can get Mr. Fantastic for Christmas!?!?

Rainy Start to the Week

It rained yesterday. It rained a lot!
Dress: Saint Tropez West
Jacket: Lauren by Ralph Lauren
Boots: Hunter
Tights: Spanx
Purse: old/no label
Scarf: Target
Earrings: flea market find

I went into the office for a short while and then ran several errands with my sister.  Luckily, we both have rain boots because they really came in handy yesterday!
Not too much to say about the rain other than it wouldn't stop.  I hope everyone is staying dry!

Holiday Wear: The Posh Dinner Party

Continuing my series on what to wear to the holiday parties, this is what I am wearing to a fabulous holiday dinner party this week.
Top: Michael Kors
Skirt: H&M dress worn as a skirt
Shoes: Jimmy Choo
Earrings: Tasha
Bracelets: Monet and Kenneth Cole
Purse: Tory Burch
Fur Wrap: Neiman Marcus
The skirt is actually the H&M Giselle dress that was all the rage this summer.  Khatu styled it this summer.  The top of this dress is extremely tight, to the point where I find it very hard to breathe or move, but if I go up a size, the cups seem to droop.  In any case, I love the print of the dress, so I decided to fold it over and wear it as a skirt.
I've had the top for a while, but I don't wear it very often because it's hard for me to remember the clothes I have when I don't rotate them in for work and I can't wear this halter top to work.  The fabulous fur wrap is from Neiman Marcus and I may or may not have borrowed it from a close family member and forgotten to return it.  Perhaps it's time to return it to it's rightful owner, but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to wear it before I do.
These gold Jimmy Choo sandals where a Christmas gift from Mr. Fantastic last year.  I love them and wanted a chance to pull them out again before the end of the year.
Happy Monday! I hope everyone has a terrific weekend! Thank you to everyone who entered my first giveaway. I will update my blog to announce the winner later today. Good Luck!

Football Sunday

I was sick yesterday and I spent it at the doctor's office and trying to clean our home for Mr. Fantastic's return.  I was sucessful at the doctor's office, but not so much at the house part. :(

Sweater: Halogen
Top: Dallas Cowboys top for Reebok (RBK)
Jeans: Levi’s
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Bianca
Boots: MIA
Earrings: Flea market find for $1

I wore this outfit to run my errands and I thought it would be appropriate for a good Football Sunday outfit.  Imagine my delight when it turned out that the Cowboys played last night. I was rooting for them all day along! ;)  I have to disclose that my child/photographer refused to leave the house with me in these shoes.  He thought they were not "running errands" shoes and made me change.  I wore the black MIA boots in this photo.  He must be looking at my Halls pep talk wrappers.  Todays pep talk was: Take charge and mean it.  Not too shabby.
He did not object to my blue star earrings. Those got to stay.  Here is a final photo in case you wonder who I root for.  Plus, they won, which is always a plus.  We've had some shaky weeks lately.
Don't forget to enter my Rebecca Minkoff giveaway! Today is the last day to enter.  I will choose a winner tomorrow and ship the coin pouch by Tuesday!  Good Luck and thank you for reading!

The World is My Playground

My sister is coming tomorrow! She took these photos of me when we visited a nearby playground a couple of weeks ago when I visited her.

Dress: Saint Tropez West
Sweater: No Label (borrowed from my sister)
Boots: Born (borrowed from my sister)
Purse: Coach (very old)
Earrings: Macy’s (gift from a cousin)
Necklace: Old
Bracelets: DIY & Marc Jacobs

Kendi managed to transition her summer dress into a fabulous fall outfit.  I'm not sure I was successful.  As my sister says, "You win some. You lose some." I do love the dress, so I will definitely keep trying.  I think part of what made her outfit successful is that she wore a structured jacket and scarf.  I didn't...
I bought my sister these Born boots last spring.  I borrowed them from her when Mr. Fantastic took me on a trip to San Francisco and they were super comfortable for walking and walking around town.  Since I was visiting, I borrowed them again.
I've carried this small Coach bag several times before, but I love this photo she got of it!
I hope everyone is having a terrific weekend! Don't forget to enter my Rebecca Minkoff Giveaway, I will pick the winner on Monday.
