Socks in My Hair

I've had a few posts now where my hair either has a sock in it or very recently had a sock in my hair just before posting.

I first saw Kimmie sporting the sock bun and she linked to this tutorial by The Other Emily.  I decided to give it a try as I am always looking for an easy way to get my hair off my face without doing the boring (and thin) ponytail.  BTW, this is really great if your hair isn't very long because it gives the illusion of much greater length.

This look was so easy and I get so many compliments everytime I do this.  It is especially great when I am between hair washes and I don't want to sport awesome stringy hair.  Mr. Fantastic donated two dress socks that I use either combined to make one thick donut or serparately if I want something smaller.  As Emily says in the tutorial, the key is to get a sock that is as close as possible to your hair color so that it blends in.  I love the boost in volume.

I realized that my hair curls very nicely when I roll it, but it had several kinks and then a few hairs just didn't curl.  So I reached out to my trusty blog friends and found this tutorial for sock curls.  In this blog, Kiwi didn't get the desired results, but these are the best instructions I've found.  The only change I made is that I don't dampen my hair.  I start with completely dry hair, roll it up and sleep in it and this is the result the next morning without using hair rollers, dryers or bonnets.  NO HEAT!  I don't even have to brush it, just run my finger through it a few times to style it.

I am always on the lookout for fast and easy hair styles because I have a tendency to sport long hair without variation.  That can turn boring very quickly and even though I am in my early thirties, I don't feel ready to sport a cute bob just yet.  I hope someone else tries it and let's me know if it works!
