Happy Mother's Day! I normally try to focus on celebrating all the moms around me, mine and my husbands in particular because they are truly incredible women who have not only guided us through every step of our lives, but continue to help us raise our children. My husband's sister is a mom to a vivacious and spirited little girl who makes us laugh beyond belief and we both have sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts, and numerous friends who leave us amazed every time we think of how much they take on just by being moms to the rambunctious and over caffeinated children in their lives.
I used to feel awkward accepting salutations from others for myself on Mother's Day. After seven years together and living with our boys for that entire time, it started to change in the last couple of years after I lost my full-time job and took over more and more of their day-to-day activities. This past year in particular was tough as our youngest has asthma and behavioral issues and I will never forget the enormous depth of emotion that I felt when he woke me up in the middle of the night crying because he couldn't breathe and called me, "Mom." And have I mentioned that I am somehow on the board of the band for our kid in High School?!?!? So much for "I'm not a mom." I might as well embrace it. :)

I was thrilled to be a part of the celebration this year and tried to be gracious as I accepted not only my
awesome dress as an early Mother's Day gift from my husband, but also gift cards and gifts from the boys and my in-laws. We went to the park and spent the afternoon there with the whole family. This is the first year that I really felt like it was my MOMent.
What is or has been your favorite MOMent? Happy Mother's Day!
you know i've been eyeing that dress ever since you showed it to us on Instagram, right?! love the color! kudos to you for embracing your role as mom...i've been in that situation and it's truly an honor to be loved and accepted by the kids.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna! I am very smitten with the dress and really love the way the silk jersey drapes and fits so comfortably. And especially thank you for your beautiful sentiment about the "step"situation. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day as well!
