Oscars 2017: My Best, Worst, and Fave Picks

My Best Dressed Picks

Hands down, Emma Stone has been building to this evening all season long. I chose her as my best dressed from the Golden Globes earlier this year and I was so thrilled that she did not disappoint on Sunday night.  She looked amazing in her golden fringe dress which was also one of the last dresses designed by Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy.  The beautiful earrings from Tiffany & Co. just added the perfect touch of glamour to her gorgeous ensemble.
Taraji P. Henson also went classic Hollywood glamour in a midnight blue velvet sheath dress by Alberta Ferretti which was accented by only the most stunning and ultra decadent diamond necklace by Nirav Modi. That necklace made me go back and forth between her and Emma for hours. I ultimately went with Emma because her dress was much more intricate, but Taraji showed us all HOW you showcase your statement jewels!
Viola Davis has been another favorite all season long. That yellow Michael Kors at the Golden Globes was beautiful, but nothing could overshadow this red custom Armani gown and jewels by Niwaka.  I will say that I believe this to be her best red carpet appearance and I was so moved by her acceptance speech after she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. So well deserved!

My Worst Dressed Picks

I was so confused by this Gucci dress worn by Dakota Johnson. She has such a great figure and this dress seemed to make the worst of every single curve. I can get on board with a demure or modest look, but this dress could have been saved by removing the awkward pelvic bow and maybe adding a thigh high slit, or even leaving out the thigh high slit and adding a slit on both arms from shoulder to wrist instead, or a plunging or modest neckline to highlight those gorgeous vintage Cartier jewels! In any case, even Cartier couldn't save this look.
I am not sure why I had such a bad reaction to both of these dresses, but considering they look alike from the full, pleated skirts to the gathered v-neck bodices, I just thought both of these women had graduated past these boring princess-y looks. Scarlett Johansson's Azzedine Alaïa gown did not make the best of her edgy and super cool new haircut, if anything, you couldn't draw your eye away from the floral mess of a dress enough to see her haircut! Charlize Theron almost made it because during the actual telecast, you couldn't see her Christian Dior prom dress except from the chest up and those Chopard earrings were to die for! Regardless, I didn't care for either of these dresses, they were the most boring in my opinion.

My Faves: Couple Picks

I picked Dwayne Johnson and Lauren Hashian as my favorite couple to walk the red carpet. Lauren wore a nude evening dress by Cushnie et Ochs and paired it with sky-high Azzedine Alaïa studded stilettos that displayed her svelte figure perfectly. However, it was Dwayne Johnson's blue velvet tuxedo jacket that made them my choice for best dressed. As much as I've tried to find the designer of it, I can only find that he was dressed by Robert Mata and it is entirely possible that Mata created this jacket for Johnson as he is a well known costume designer in his own right.  In either case, Dwayne and Lauren looked fabulous and in love and that is often my main criteria for being my favorite couple on any red carpet.
Honorable mention for my favorite couples at the Oscars go to Luciana Barroso and Matt Damon who also rocked a navy blue tuxedo and Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé and Harry Winston Earrings. It was tough to find any outlets who were interested in naming designers for many of the menswear and I had to dig through personal social media accounts to get designer information for a number of significant others! Unfortunately, Luciana Barroso doesn't appear to have official social media and I can't get a designer for her gorgeous, pewter gown!

My Fave: Ryan Gosling

Let's face it: Ryan Gosling in a Gucci tux with a vintage ruffle tuxedo shirt is everything I wanted from Hollywood on Sunday. He looked handsome and exactly like a Hollywood leading man.
Who were your faves? Least fave?
