Style Influence: My Mom

You don't know her, but my mom is one of the most beautiful and amazing women I know.

That's her on the left with my dad's mom on the right.  The beautiful baby in the middle? Well that's me!  But back to her: she was 17 in this photo and she already had a greater inherent sense of style than I could ever dream of having.  How about those amazing boots she paired with the blue skirt set?  I wish I'd known about layering at her age...I learned about layering last week.  And also, how about my "welita"s glasses? I am on the hunt for a great pair of cat eye sunglasses now.

One of my all-time favorite photos of my mother is this one taken on the day she married my dad.  I asked her once why she looked so serious and she said that it was the day that it dawned on her that she wasn't a baby anymore.  She felt the entire weight of the world on her 16 year-old shoulders.  And isn't she beautiful? I've tried so many times to recreate this wedding dress as a gorgeous evening dress for myself, but have never managed the effortless grace and beauty she displays here.  This is still my holy grail: a beautiful jersey tiered dress with a keyhole neckline and flowers in my hair.

When I grow up, I want to be just like my mom!

  1. Wow! Your mom's "scorching" hot!! Seriously, she's very pretty. I can't believe that's you as a baby :).

Tell me what you think, but be nice! You catch more flies with sugar than spice!
